Technology

M-Solv prides itself on developing new and advanced laser processes and printing for the energy, large area electronics and IC packaging sectors for both commercial and scientific applications.

The MSV-200 inkjet material deposition tool combines an accurate, granite-framed motion control system with print heads from the Fujiflim Dimatix Q-Class range (acknowledged as leading heads for materials deposition, with their excellent jetting accuracy and materials compatibility). The series has a 65mm swathe and nozzle density ranges from 256 nozzles at 100dpi (254mm) to 1024 nozzles at 400dpi (63.5mm) “native resolution”. Higher resolutions are easily achieved by ganging multiple print heads and/or multi-pass interleaved printing. The tool incorporates a vision system and automatic or manual (x,y,q) alignment. UV cure options are available and the tool is housed within a fully interlocked safety enclosure with application appropriate fume extraction.

This tool can be used in electronics applications for printing metals, dielectrics, resists and other materials.

The application development process that M-Solv undertakes with customers examines a number issues: particularly those relating to the speed and process rates (TAKT time), substrate size, flatness requirements and handling during loading and unloading. For unfamiliar fluids, dropwatching with a high magnification strobe camera synchronised to the drop emission is used to examine the evolution of the drops as they exit the nozzles and develop the correct drive pulses for the head/fluid combination. In all cases, printing trials are used to ensure the quality of fluid deposition and required pattern placement accuracy and resolution.

Printing from bitmap image files of very high resolution is supported >> 1000dpi is sometimes needed in materials applications, simply to deposit a thick enough layer of material. Typical examples of system modules which are examined during assessment include:

  • Contract Services
  • Project definition and specification
  • Process Assessment
  • Head module design configuration
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Print engines
  • Rasterised Image Processing
  • Vector Write motion control
  • Head technologies - Drop on Demand, Continuous Ink Jet, Valve and Micro Pump technologies
  • Fluid path and delivery systems
  • Drop placement accuracy
  • Repeatability
  • Reliability
  • 100% inspection
